History Of Delhi Metro: Red Line
The construction and opening of the Red Line was the first line of the Delhi Metro. The first section was constructed from Tis Hazari to Shahdara and opened on 25 December 2002. This strategy worked in favor of DMRC.
Many foreign investors, particularly from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation invested in the project, were genuinely impressed by the effort, especially by the corruption-free model. The money invested was used to complete the remaining segments in Phase-I and then in the construction of Phase-II. Subsequently, other stations were opened in phases, initially between Tis Hazari to Inderlok in 2003, then from Inderlok in 2004, and the last eastern extension from Shahdara to Dilshad Gardens in 2008.
As a part of the Phase III plan, an eastward extension of 9.5 km from Dilshad Garden to Ghaziabad ISBT (New Bus Stand) was approved by DMRC and Government in January 2014. Construction began in early 2015 and commercial operations began on 8 March. 2019, giving passengers another link to travel to Ghaziabad, opposite the Blue Line branch, which connects Vaishali to Ghaziabad.
